Thin film Approach to miniaturized RF Integration
The Thin film hybrid circuits approach has been there for many years but are declining in many applications. Replaced by an evolution in the area of MMICs. The new thin film technology enables frequencies above 60 GHz. As an example, an 8-section lumped element filter will have a size of 2”x0.6”x0.4”. A thin film approach will reduce this to 0.4”x0.4”x0,14”. Q-factors as high as 250 to 400 are feasible. So, these possibilities and many others open a new channel for low-cost RF integration.

Currently there are many environments, such als in the office, at home, in production plants, that have communication problems caused by different sources. Interference of RF communication channels is becoming an interesting problem, especially in areas like warfare and personal communication.
