Mentor light guide in Grohe Blue home | Grohe red

The Grohe Blue Home kitchen tap is an intelligent drinking water system that converts tap water into high-quality sparkling water – filtered, chilled, sparkling, still or medium. The elegant, timeless design of the tap complements the innovative technology, which provides perfectly chilled carbonated drinking water at the touch of a button, with no display screen or app – for sustainable, convenient drinking enjoyment.

Rather than an ordinary tap, the Grohe Blue Home is a system for providing drinking water entirely to individual tastes, while also being a high-end design piece. This multifunctionality makes simple, intuitive use essential to ensure a successful user experience. In the case of the Blue Home tap, this is aided by an integrated lighting solution. In an impressive fashion, light forges a link between multifunctionality, ease of use and elegant, timeless design. The tap uses different coloured lights – blue, green and mint – to show the chosen type of water. If there is a fault – for example, the CO2 cartridge is defective or empty – this is indicated by a continuous or flashing red light. The elegant communication and feedback solution makes the tap intuitive to use. The current mode is selected using a sensor button, which is edged by a contour-tracking light ring. A particular challenge when developing a suitable coloured light solution lay in achieving homogeneous lighting while using just two LEDs, as well as implementing a technically sophisticated solution in a very limited space.

The Grohe Blue Home tap has already won nine design prizes and was given the “Best of the Best” Golden Award in the kitchen sink and tap category at the 2019 “KüchenInnovationen des Jahres” awards.

The sister product, Grohe Red – which is very similar in both design and function – provides boiling water at the touch of a button rather than sparkling water, and can replace kettles in many scenarios. An integrated lighting solution from MENTOR is used in this product too.

Different colour shades – blue, green and mint – indicate what type of water has been selected: still, medium or sparkling. Even the temperature of the water can be adjusted to individual tastes.

Light development par excellence: using just two LEDs, the challenge was to create homogenous lighting for the light ring, while making optimum use of the limited space.

An integrated sensor button detects the type of water currently selected and any faults in the appliance. The current mode is communicated via the integrated, contour-tracking Mentor light guide.
